Community Outreach: Businesses That Give Back

Bill Johnson, Regional Director of Sales for the Midwest, knows the importance of serving in the community. Bill has been a long time supporter of Special Olympic and the Missouri Winter Games through his participation with the Kansas City Ski Club.

Philanthropy and community service are integral parts of the culture at Mid America Specialty Services. We believe it’s important for our employees to be out in the community volunteering their time. In fact we believe in it so strongly that it’s a part of our Mission Statement. Here are just a few ways our incredible staff has given back to their community.

Serving the Community

Southwest Region

In October 2008, George Smith (Regional Director of Sales – Dallas) and Dodi Whitmire (Vice President of SW), with the assistance of Granite Properties, Transwestern and some BOMA Allied members,  led the BOMA Community Service Committee’s Adopt-a-Block program to demo a garage for an elderly organ recipient. The garage, which had been a code violation was turned into a nice backyard patio.  Earlier in the year, George and Dodi teamed up with Stream Realty, Gaedeke and many BOMA Allied members to help a disabled couple improve their home and correct several code violations.  New siding was put on the house and a fresh coat of paint really made it shine. The yard was cleaned of debris and landscaped with new planters and foliage.

Serving the Community

Southeast Region

In the Southeast, our Atlanta based sales team has chosen to give back by partnering with Hillside. Atlanta’s oldest organized charity, Hillside is a private, non profit agency that provides quality, cost-effective treatment and education to mental health patients, including children, adolescents and their families. On Fridays Harold Watson, Tim Leanhart, and Bobby Fowler take turns reading to the children or serving in other ways at Hillside.

Serving the Community

Midwest Region

Bill Johnson, Regional Director of Sales for the Midwest, knows the importance of serving in the community.  Bill has been a long time supporter of Special Olympics and the Missouri Winter Games through his participation with the Kansas City Ski Club.  Since the mid 80’s, Bill has trained Special Olympic athletes on the techniques of cross-country and alpine skiing.  Through Bill’s involvement with the Ski Club, eventually serving as president of that club, he has been a volunteer coordinator for the skiing events at the wildly popular Missouri Games each year.

Account Representative Bob Easton donates his time at Wayside Waifs, which is a non-profit animal shelter located in Kansas City, MO.  Bob volunteers in the cat adoption area helping to find these stray cats a new home.

These are just a few of the many examples of how our employees volunteer their time to help impact various organizations and communities around the country.
